AV Explained

About Me

My Picture

Hi, my name is Jesse, and I am passionate about all things technology and art. The AV world is a perfect blend of both, but it can be quite confusing to figure it all out.

I started this site to provide a one-stop shop for all your audio/visual questions, whether you are a newbie who can’t figure out why things are not working properly, or you just want to take your skills to the next level.

History

I got into AV while volunteering at my local church in junior high. I simply had to hit the space bar to transition to the next PowerPoint slide. I quickly learned that hitting that cue right on time was actually pretty challenging. Slowly, I learned about all the cool tricks to make slideshows easier. Later, I started messing around with a soundboard and playing with stage lights. I worked for the church part-time, running the AV for Sunday mornings and special events. During that time I learned that just like a church, companies need audiovisual support for events of every size and shape, and the career potential was unmistakable.

After working full-time audio-visual company for a few years, I started freelancing. I worked with all kinds of different companies that specialized in so many different sides of the field. I loved the opportunity to help them create successful events. Eventually, I landed a job as an Operations Manager for an AV company, making sure that events had the right gear and people necessary to run smoothly. Currently, I am enjoying setting my own schedule through freelancing as a Technical Director and Video Engineer.

So What?

Through it all, I’ve loved learning about the latest and greatest gear and how people can use it to their benefit. The people are one of the best parts of the industry. Any time I asked a question, there was always someone ready to walk me through the answers. AV Explained is my chance to pass along what I’ve learned. Let me know if you have any questions that you need answered, and we’ll get it explained.
